I always get Yo Sushi’s firecracker rice when I’m in the UK.. but now I can make it at home! This fried, spicy rice is made with a Japanese 7-ingredient spice called shichimi togarashi. If you’re unsure of how to make fried rice without eggs, or how to use shichimi togarashi.. Here is a good recipe.
What you’ll need:
- 1 cup white rice
- 1 1/2 cups water
- green onions chopped
- orange and yellow peppers chopped
- salt & pepper
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 TEASPOON shichimi togarashi
Begin by cooking your rice in a pot..
While this happens, finely chop some green onions, carrots, yellow peppers and red peppers. Saute that in about a tablespoon of olive oil in a wok.. Medium heat.
Once those are cooked (about 5 minutes).. Add in your sesame oil and soy sauce. Heat it up before adding in your cooked rice. Keep on medium to fry the rice.
Now you are going to want to add in your shichimi togarashi. I would only recommend using a TEASPOON or less.. Unless you like it REALLY spicy add more.. but this stuff is HOT. So add and taste accordingly.
That’s pretty much it. Just saute the rice a little more and you’re good to go!
For the true Yo! Sushi experience, add in some chopped salmon when you cook the peppers and carrots. I had none. 🙁
